Ford rather than applying to Central School of Speech and Drama and securing a place on her third attempt she applied for and was awarded acceptance to Central School of Speech and Drama. Tate made her television debut in the year 1991, appearing on television shows like The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. and London's Burning. The regular theatre work she performed has led to her joining The Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 season. However, Tate was soon gaining attention for her stand-up comic that she incorporated into her repertoire in 1996.
